Dr Christine Grant and Dr Maria Charalampous attended the 16th European Association Occupational Health Conference in Granada. The theme for the 2024 conference was “Contributions of OHP to social justice”. The programme will include oral and poster presentations as well as a number of invited and special symposia in line with the multidisciplinary conference theme. Dr Grant presented in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion session, whilst Dr Charalampous presented in the Neurodiversity and the Workplace theme.
Dr Grant explained that “there is not one solution” when it comes to remote working for disabled and/or neurodivergent workers, and that “line manager support is vital to ensure that the benefits can be accrued for both the employee and the employer”. She explained that remote working had been found through the Remote4All research to be essential for many people in this community to “gain and sustain employment”.
Dr Charalampous was pleased to be able to showcase the newly devised Remote4All scale that measures remote working for disabled and/or neurodivergent remote workers. The scale covers how employers and employees can ensure that aspects of remote working are fully considered, including communication styles, working environment, social isolation and invisibility. She said about the new Remote4All scale that “it can be used to diagnose the extent to which the needs of this overlooked community of workers is being supported in any organisation.” She went on to add that the scale “allows for actionable interventions to be developed.”
Both oral presentations were well received, and it proved an excellent chance to network with peers and colleagues.
