e work-life: support and guidance to enable businesses to maximise remote working

welcome

Remote working is on the increase, since the pandemic in 2020 a large number of organisations are adopting flexible models of working that supports both the employee’s wellbeing but also maximises productivity gains for the organisation.

Remote working is here to stay so it is now very important that employers can develop effective strategies to gain the best from remote working practices. By helping employees to work effectively and to balance and integrate their own work and life arrangements can lead to a win-win for both employees and employers.

The e work-life scale was developed across three sectors public, voluntary and private and is appropriate for all types of employers from large through to small and medium sized organisations. Dr Grant, Dr Tramontano and Dr Charalampous have developed several other scales that measure and support effective remote working. The team have worked alongside and researched diverse populations of remote workers to develop the scales. The team will be pleased to offer advice and guidance on improving the effectiveness of remote working for your employees and organisation.

The tools can be used by organisations adopting remote working styles, including hybrid, agile and home working.

Getting your remote working e work-life right, can benefit your organisation and your employee’s wellbeing.

Dr Christine Grant has been researching remote working since 2006, following the completion of her PhD in 2011 she continues to publish new scales and measures in this area and has many published papers plus a book on Agile working and Wellbeing in the Digital Age.

Dr Grant has worked on several different and projects including the development of a self -efficacy scale for remote workers with Dr Tramontano, an e work-wellbeing scale led by Dr Charalampous and most recently the ‘Remote4All’ project that has researched disabled and/or neurodivergent remote workers (see animation).

“Earlier in the year I used the e work-life scale to support a review of my team’s current ways of working, which included remote working. The innovative evidence-based tool aided group discussion on the topic with the team, facilitating conversation on potential areas for improvement, highlighting individual and team e-working strengths and helping to illicit recommendations for future practice. I would highly recommend the e work-life scale to businesses seeking to understand their employees’ e-working experiences.”
